This tradition comes from the Roman thermal baths, with the Ottoman culture's influence of the Turkish bath and is still very present in the Middle East countries. Hammam is still appreciated because its efficient combination of irradiated heat and high humidity is well tolerated.
It is a real purification ritual through steam baths. It favours sleep, the elimination of toxins and toning up of the muscles, the purification of the body and the respiratory tracts. It enlightens the skin and gives it elasticity and softness.
Pre-equipped and ready to be tiled or made-to-measure, nowadays hammams are often associated to aromatherapy and the diffusion of aromatic essences, to musicotherapy or chromatherapy. Traditionally the ritual is completed by an exfoliating scrub that cleans the skin and eliminates dead cells to maximise the benefits of the steam bath. The temperature varies between 40°C and 60°C with 100% of humidity. The seats and the floor are heated up.
